Meet the Browns

Brown's Martial Arts opened their doors in 1999, and for over 20 years they have taught thousands of people essential life skills though martial arts. Recently, they have upgraded their facility and programming and now focus exclusively on Kickboxing and Jiu Jitsu.

Jason was introduced to martial arts by his father, and began his training when he was six years old. After training for seven years, he earned his Red Belt at 13. Jason then took a break from martial arts training, but returned when he was 18 and would begin his competitive career.

Jason set his sights on winning a world title in each major organization and managed to achieve that goal, receiving awards in WKC, WKA, WAKO and NASKA. After 20 years of competing and feeling content with his achievements, Jason retired from competing. Although Jason is no longer directly involved in competitions, he continues to pass down his knowledge to his students, who set their sights on becoming future World Champions. Jason now enjoys running his martial arts school and spending time raising his five children.

Jeff began his martial arts journey at the age of eight, when he began training at Burlington Martial Arts. He quickly ascended the ranks, achieving his 1st Degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do in 1991. At the age of 18, Jeff began his instructing career, teaching at Canadian Martial Arts in Ancaster. When that facility closed down, he shifted his focus back to training, acquiring his 2nd Degree Black Belt at Waterdown Tae Kwon Do.

Jeff currently teaches kickboxing and grappling. He primarily trains in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, which he currently has his purple belt. In his spare time, Jeff likes lifting weights, which helps strengthen him for his Brazilian Jiu Jitsu training. He also enjoys spending quality time with his wife and two daughters.

As a child, Monte was first introduced to the practice of martial arts by his father who was in the army and taught him various moves that he learned in the military. During his teenage years, Monte started training in judo, tae kwon do, and wrestling. By the time he was well into adulthood, Monte had trained in various types of martial arts including karate, tae kwon do, judo, jiu jitsu, hapkido and close-quarters combats of all kinds.

To this day, Monte thinks his biggest accomplishments in martial arts lie within his sons. He shares the view that no matter how long you’ve participated in martial arts, you will always continue to learn the art throughout your life. To this day, Monte is still very eager to continue to teach and learn more martial arts techniques.

Brown's Kickboxing and Jiu Jitsu is proud to be affiliated with Professor Matt McPeake. He has been training in discipline of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for over 20 years, brininging a wealth of knowledge to our Brazilian Jiu Jitsu program. He received his Black Belt after being tested by the council of travelling Black Belts at the 2018 Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Globetrotters Maine Camp, and is currently affiliated with Jay Page's Jiu Jitsu Academy in Phoenix Arizona.

Matt's teaching philosophy focuses on defence and escapes, and is rooted in concepts that are applicable in self-defence and combat sports. His reasoning behind his defence-first philosophy is developing one's self-confidence and assurance that if you're comfortable defending an opponent's attacks, you are in much better position to launch a counter-attack when opportunities are presented.

Professor Matt has a very calm and comfortable teaching style and takes extra time with his students to help them learn to the best of their abilities.

As one our Brazilian Jiu Jitsu coaches, Phil brings more than 50 years of martial arts experience to Brown's Kickboxing and Jiu Jitsu. Phil maintains a Black belt in Judo and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, as well as a second degree black belt in Japanese Jiu Jitsu. In addition, Phil has extensive knowledge in Kali and wrestling disciplines. Phil also brings professional MMA experience, having served as cornerman for UFC fighter Mark Bocek. His wealth of knowledge and experience is a asset to our Brazilian Jiu Jitsu program.

All programs are taught by trained and certified black belt instructors.
